Donald Wayne “Red” Ammons, 76, of Mooresville, died on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was surrounded by his family. He was born on March 21, 1947, to the late Oscar Burl and Icie “Mae” Johnson Ammons.
Wayne worked at Federal #2 (Peabody) Coal Mines at Miracle Run where he retired with 36 years employed. He attended Olive United Methodist Church and was a Methodist by faith.
Wayne was a graduate of Clay-Battelle High School. He enjoyed watching WVU sports and his kids and grandkids sports and their activities. He enjoyed gardening, riding 4-wheelers and earlier in life hunting.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda. They enjoyed spending time together and have beautiful memories of their life together. He was a great provider to his family. He was also survived by his daughter, Sandra Porter and her husband Rob of Fairmont; and his son, Gary Ammons and his wife Denise also of Fairmont. He is survived by three grandchildren, Lucas Porter and his wife Darryen, Olivia Ammons, and Sawyer Ammons; and one great-grandson.
He is survived by his twin brother, Ronald Blaine Ammons and his wife Donna of Mooresville; and a brother, Buddy Burl Ammons of Jake’s Run.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by two sisters and their spouses, Martha Statler (Stanley), and Freda Moore (Carl), and a sister, Alberta Ruth Ammons who passed as an infant. A brother, Delbert Ammons (Lola) and sister-in-law, Brenda Ammons. Also proceeded in death was his mother-in-law, Mary Ellen Butcher.
Friends may call the Owen-Neely Funeral Home, 5894 Mason Dixon Hwy, Blacksville, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. with the Pastor John Brosky officiating.
