On October 19, 2023, at Monongalia General Hospital Ellen “Marie” Norberg Cramer, 87, ran through the heavenly gates to the blessed kitchen to prepare the meal for others as she loved to do. She left as she lived, always surrounded by her loving family and at peace. Her loving husband, Dale Carl Cramer, who died March 5, 1997, was there to greet her along with many family and friends. They were united in marriage Nov. 10, 1956.
Marie was born Feb. 11, 1936, in Emporium, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Carl William Norberg and Wilbia Lambert Norberg.
Marie was raised in Morgantown and graduated from Morgantown High School and attended Nursing School, becoming an OR scrub nurse. After marrying Dale Cramer of Kingwood, they settled in Kingwood and raised four children.
Surviving are her children, Wynne (Junior) Jenkins of Sarver, Pa., Keith (Paula) Cramer of Kingwood, Cheri (Ron) Wooten of Bruceton Mills, and Joni (Michael) Roh of Morgantown.
Marie was employed by the Preston County Board of Education for many years beginning as a secretary where she formed many lifelong relationships with countless teachers, staff and students. As head of food services at the Board of Education she introduced many new innovative procedures. She was also a founding member of the Preston Federal Credit Union, serving as Vice President for decades. Marie was also a highly respected tax prep expert in Kingwood who never turned anyone away in need. One of her proudest achievements was as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (VITA). Even after a major stroke slowed her in 2005, Marie remained feisty and a good friend to many. Her determination to overcome disability was inspiring to all who met her and she never gave up in believing she would walk again! Her genuine love of people and hospitality to all she met will be deeply missed. In her desire to be of service to others, she was a leader and vice president of the residents council at Sundale resulting in patient communication improvements and known as the “Queen of Bingo” and the greatest WVU Mountaineer fan.
