Shirley Ann Hazelwood, age 80, passed away Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, at her home. Shirley was born in Morgantown on Aug. 10, 1943, a daughter of the late Cecil and Ethel Mae Crites Kirby.
Shirley, who was lovingly known as “scrub nazi,” retired from J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital with 31 years of service. She also retired from Kroger in the “cheese department”. In her free time, Shirley enjoyed camping at Wapocoma Campground in Romney and loved shopping for bargains. She was a loving wife, mom, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Frank Hazelwood; daughters, Lisa Metz and Donna Batton (Carl) both of Morgantown; sons, Gilbert Himes (Wanda) of Front Royal, Va., David Himes (Laura) of Hagans, and Frank Alonzo Hazelwood; grandchildren, Amanda (Kevin) Bellman, Chad Himes, and Allison Himes; great-grandchildren, Mary Faith Bellman, Devin Bellman, Dayton Bellman, and Baby Wade Himes; special cousins, Con and Nancy Wostoupal of S.C.; fur babies, Bahr and Foxie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sisters, Hilda “Cappy” McFarland and Mary Maloney; and brother, Charles Kirby.
Friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home from 2-5p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22. There will be no viewing or services on Monday. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service with Pastor Everett Davenport officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
