Richard L. “Dick” Johnson, age 80, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully Monday evening, Oct. 2, 2023, at Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown following an extended illness.
Born in Gallipolis, Ohio, on June 13, 1943, Dick was a son of the late Jackson George Farr Johnson and the late Margaret Somerville Johnson.
Dick lived most of his life in Point Pleasant, and graduated from Point Pleasant High School with the class of 1961 where he played basketball. Dick obtained his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University in 1965 and was a Life Loyal Sigma Chi.
Dick and his wife were long-time and faithful members of Wesley United Methodist Church.
He worked in sales all his life. He began his insurance career with New England Insurance Company in 1984 and retired in 2015, proudly working with his daughter Stephanie for 15 years.
Dick is survived by his wife, Kathleen “Kathie” Sloane Johnson, with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage in June of 2023; daughter, Stephanie Lemley (John) and their children Kathryn Elizabeth “Katie” and Ryan Padraic Lemley; daughter, Samantha Johnson and her children Kenna Lea Johnson and Lennox Cade Johnson; and daughter, Christina Hubbard (Nick Jackson) and her daughter, Natalya Dolores Jackson.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a son, Cody Lee Johnson; granddaughters Kassidy Lea Johnson and Londyn Monroe Johnson; and a brother, Joseph W. Johnson.
Friends may join the family to honor Dick’s life and legacy at Wesley United Methodist Church, 503 N. High St., Morgantown, from 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. officiated by Pastor Michael Atkinson. Following the funeral service and in accordance with the family’s request, Dick will be cremated.
