Gordon McClung

Gordon William McClung, 72, passed away on Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, at his Morgantown home surrounded by family.

Gordon was born on Sept. 3, 1951, in Hico, the son of the late John and Marcella McClung. He graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1969. He received his political science degree in 1975, and his MBA in 1977, both from WVU. Gordon received his PhD in marketing from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986.

Gordon was a lifelong learner who was passionate about teaching. During his 37-year career in higher education, he taught marketing at West Virginia University and Jacksonville University, and served for many years as the faculty chair of the Business Department at Waynesburg University. He positively impacted the lives of countless young men and women. He was able to see your strengths and show you how best to use them. He had the ability to enable people to be seen and heard. He was a gifted conversationalist with a broad knowledge of most any subject and had a great sense of humor. He could make you laugh with a few well said words when you needed them most.

Gordon loved his family deeply and he chose time with them over all else. During the early years of marriage to his adored wife, Tandy, they travelled the nation, living in many unique places, eventually returning to start their family in his home state, where he spent countless days showing her the beauty of his beloved West Virginia. Gordon was an avid sailor and shared that passion with his much-loved daughter, Kerry. They spent many wonderful weekends cruising the Chesapeake together. He was an aficionado of sports cars and loved to ski, kayak, hike, and bike with his family.

Gordon leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Tandy McClung; daughter, Kerry McClung, and son, Jeremy McClung; sister, Camillia Calvert, her husband, George, and her children Derek, Deean and Denece; brother, Shea McClung, his wife, Glenda, and his children Ashley and Heather; sister-in-law, Merrin Brown, and her husband, Albert, and their children, Drew, Kate and Chris; brother-in-law, Seward Ward, and his wife, Susan, and their children, Ruthanne and Lucy; and many grandnieces, nephews and godchildren.

Gordon was preceded in death by his brother, Philip McClung, and nephew, Dell Staton.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Hastings Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
