Nonprofit organizations in Morgantown and its surrounding area have so much to crow about — but their work can often go overlooked.
That’s why, every October, the West Virginia Botanic Garden showcases the great work local charities are doing in a fun — and eye-catching — way.
During WVBG’s Scarecrow Spectacular, more than a dozen 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations put their creativity to the test, fashioning scarecrows that explain their missions.
This year, there are 15 scarecrows set up mostly around the 3/4-mile Reservoir Loop Trail, offering visitors a chance to learn more about each charity, while enjoying the garden’s other scenery.
The scarecrows will be set up through October.
This year’s participants are: Dancing Elephant Productions, Monongalia County Child Advocacy Center, Quota Club of Morgantown, Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia, The Ranch, Cheat Area Public Library, Lauren’s Wish, Mon Valley Habitat for Humanity, Project Rainbow, Human Animal Bond, WVBG board of directors, WVBG staff, PACE Enterprises and Girls on the Run.
The West Virginia Botanic Garden is 5 miles from Interstate 68, Exit 4 at 1061 Tyrone Road in Morgantown. Visitors can learn more about the site, programs and events by visiting wvbg.org.
