Early Explorers, Science Day coming to Spark!

Bring your youngest scientists to Spark! Imagination and Science Center’s Early Explorers Program, a series of programs that will continue over the next six months.

These programs are designed for children up to age 4 and their caregivers.

“Doing science looks different at different ages,” said Julie Bryan, executive director of Spark. “In Early Explorers, our youngest visitors will have the opportunity to engage with science at an age-appropriate level, learning science process skills such as exploring, making observations, using tools, making predictions and measuring.”

The series kicks off Oct. 12 with A Magnifying Discovery!, which will run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Young learners will be introduced to magnification while exploring tools such as binoculars and microscopes.

For a list of future dates and activities, visit the Facebook page or contact Tiffany Martin at educator@sparkwv.org.

Participation in Early Explorers is included with general admission: $5 per person, children under 1 visit for free. No reservation is required, just drop by to explore.

Early Explorers was funded through a grant made possible through a collaborative effort between YCF and the Arts Council of Greater Morgantown, with funding from the City of Morgantown, the Monongalia County Commission and the Douglas H. Tanner Memorial Fund for the Arts.

The learning continues with Spark’s Annual Science Day, set for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Mountaineer Mall center.

Visitors can enjoy hands-on science fun for all ages on a variety of topics such as physics, neuroscience, chemistry, nanoscience and more.

“Science Day is an amazing opportunity for children and adults to experience hands-on science demonstrations in a variety of science disciplines,” Bryan said.

Participants in Science Day will also have the opportunity to visit the museum’s hands-on exhibits. Visitors can dig for pretend dinosaur fossils, build a ball ramp, explore space weather, play dress up and much more.

Admission is $5 per person, Spark members are admitted for free. Admission includes all science activities and admission to the museum.

Spark! Imagination and Science Center is inside the Mountaineer Mall, 5000 Green Bag Road. For more information, call 304-292-4646 or visit the museum’s website at sparkwv.org.

Regular hours are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
