Stephen Hall Yost, 74, of Morgantown, passed away early Sunday morning of Oct. 1, 2023, at his home in Morgantown. He was born Aug. 21, 1949, in Morgantown, the first son of Charles Peter and Doris Vivian “Dottie” Hall Yost.
Stephen was a 1967 graduate of Morgantown High School and a 1971 graduate of West Virginia University with a bachelor’s of arts degree in Spanish with a dual minor in English and political science. He was president of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity during his senior year. In 1996, he was honored for his outstanding support of the WVU School of Physical Education. Stephen worked with the West Virginia Youth Council after graduating from WVU under Governor Arch Moore. He became a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative in 1978 and worked for Sandoz, Novartis, and Solvay Pharmaceutical companies during his 26 years in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2006, Stephen achieved his master of arts and teaching degree from Fairmont State University. After receiving his Masters, Stephen taught Spanish at Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania and evening adult classes at the Monongalia County Vocational Technical School. In addition, he was a substitute teacher for the Monongalia County School District and taught students from preschool to high school. Stephen was a member of the WVU Alumni Association from 1993-present. In addition, he was an active member of the Central West Virginia Scientific Association (CWVSA), where he appeared as Santa Claus at the annual Christmas party. Stephen loved to present his family and friends with rhyming poems and dollar bill signs with a dollar for each birthday year. He loved golfing and his annual Christmas Eve get together with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dawn Myers Yost; brother, Scott Clinton Yost (Anna); nephew, Clinton Francis Yost (Annaliese); and great-nieces, Maxine, Oakley, and Sage Yost.

Friends and family will be received at Suncrest United Methodist Church, 479 Van Voorhis Rd., Morgantown, from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, and again on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry Buckland and Pastor Craig Alan Myers officiating. Interment will take place at Asher Glade Cemetery in Maryland.
