ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Oh. — Trinity Christian captured the OVAC soccer championship Saturday morning in St. Clairsville, Oh., defeating Wheeling Central 2-1 in the title game.
This was the Warriors’ second OVAC championship in three years, and its third straight title game appearance.
Senior Carter Hartsock gave Trinity Christian (10-3-2) a 1-0 lead scoring eight minutes into the game off an assist from junior Brock Shuba.
Shuba then added a goal of his own eight minutes later in the first half to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. Senior Carmelo Kniska picked up an assist on Shuba’s goal.
Wheeling Central was given a penalty kick late in the first half, which it converted trimming the lead to 2-1.
Trinity dug in defensively in the second half, limiting Wheeling Central’s chances on goal on its way to the title.
Senior Ben Lohmann made five saves in net to help protect the 2-1 victory for the Warriors.
Trinity will travel to University High on Thursday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
