Margaret Bezjak

Margaret Lillian Steele (Dixon) Bezjak, 92, of Morgantown, passed away early Wednesday morning, Sept. 27, 2023, at the residence of her daughter, where she had lived for the past 23 years.

She was born in Morgantown, on April 4, 1931, a daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Tanner Steele.

Margaret is survived by her two children, Nancy Clatworthy and her husband David, and Earl Eugene Dixon Jr. and his companion Paulette; seven grandchildren, Lonnie Knisell and his wife Elizabeth, Korena Pettit, Amanda Knisell and her wife Tara, Earl Eugene Dixon III, Donald Dixon, Caleb Dixon and Noah Dixon and his wife Maloree; 12 great-grandchildren and two-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bezjak, on Feb. 26, 2017; a brother, Howard Theodore Steele; and a sister, Doris Staddon Brown.

Margaret was a longtime member of the Sabraton Hill Baptist Church and faithfully supported the women’s missions there. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Fleet Reserve Association. She and her husband Paul were avid travelers, visiting nearly every state in the United States.

In her later years, Margaret took great enjoyment coloring pictures and cards while watching the Hallmark Channel, and would then give those pictures to family and friends. She enjoyed receiving cards and messages of well wishes from her church family.

Friends may join the family to honor Margaret’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown on Sunday, Oct. 1, from 2-6 p.m., and again on Monday, Oct. 2, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. officiated by Chaplain Dennis Lusin. Margaret will then be laid to rest with her husband Paul at West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown.

The family wishes to extended a very sincere thank you to Sue Chipps for the care given to Margaret in her final months, and all the nurses, doctors and staff with WV Caring Hospice for the unwavering support and love given to her throughout the years.
