Former Delegate Danielle Walker no longer serving at ACLU-WV

MORGANTOWN — Former Monongalia County Delegate Danielle Walker is no longer serving as executive director of the ACLU West Virginia chapter.

Contacted on Tuesday, Walker preferred not to comment at this time.

Anne Farmer, president of the ACLU-WV Board of Directors, said this in a Tuesday email exchange: “We are unable to provide comment at this time, as this is a personnel matter. We can confirm that Eli Baumwell has been serving as the interim executive director since Sept. 15.”

As a delegate, Walker served in the 81st District and resigned on April 10 in order to begin her new job as executive director of the ACLU West Virginia chapter on April 17.

Walker opened her resignation letter in April by saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I pen these words, but I do so with a sense of purpose and conviction.”

First elected in 2018, she said in her letter, “In the years since, I have tirelessly served and continuously shown up for the most vulnerable voices in our state. … And while I have done all I can to move things forward, I recognize the limitations of our current political landscape, and seek a new pathway for change. … And so, with courage and determination, I will push forward, trusting in the goodness and mercy of the Almighty to guide me every step of the way.”

Walker made her last social media posts in her position at ACLU on Sept. 14.
