Jesse Ray Locklar, Jr., 72, was the oldest child born to Jess and Flora (Clark) Locklar on May 1, 1951, in Ariton, Ala. He graduated from Enterprise High School in 1969 and Auburn University in 1974 with a degree in Building Construction. Over the years, he proudly served as a Free Mason. On May 19, 1979, he married the love of his life, Troi Ann Lanum. They were blessed with two sons, David J. Locklar and James T. Locklar. Jess started his career with Daniels Construction in South Carolina and moved to Brown & Roof in Texas to build nuclear power plants. He then went to work for Dominion Resources/Energy in both Mineral and Richmond, Virginia. In 1997, he moved to Morgantown, with Morgantown Energy Associates as Plant Manager on Beechurst Avenue from where he retired in 2015. During his residence in Morgantown, he served as a member and past President of the Salvation Army and The Rotary Club of Cheat Lake. He also served on the boards of the West Virginia Botanical Gardens and the Mountaineer Area Boy Scouts of America. While working for Dominion Resources, he received the Volunteer of the Year award for his work with the Salvation Army. After a five-year struggle with COPD and heart disease, Jess left us to begin his heavenly life on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023.
He leaves behind is wife, Troi; sons, Jon (Melissa) and Jim (Kristina) of Morgantown; brother, Hank (Kelly) of New Brockton, Ala.; brother-in-law, Scott Lanum (Judy); daughter, Randi of Houston; nephew, Nathan Locklar (Carey) and family of Houston; niece, Morgan Lanum Cleburne of Texas; along with numerous cousins and friends.
Friends and family will be received at Cheat Lake Community Church, 527 Tyrone Rd., Morgantown, from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 30, to celebrate his life. Hastings Funeral Home is entrusted with cremation arrangements.
