Harold Wesley “Hayseed” Sypolt, 77, of Aurora, formerly of Bretz, passed away Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born Feb. 12, 1946, in Ruthbelle, a son of the late Dailey Russell Sypolt Sr. and Twila Katherine (Poling) Sypolt.
Hayseed was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a graduate of Terra Alta High School class of 1964. He worked in the coal mines for over 40 years and had retired from the Peabody Coal Company. He served his country in the U.S. Army reserves. Hayseed loved going to the stockyard on Fridays and spending time with his friends there. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, rather it was playing cards or having a cookout.
He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Paugh and Ronnie of Aurora; one son, Jeff Zuccari of Fredericksburg, Va.; one brother, Dailey “Hussy” Sypolt of Terra Alta; five grandchildren, Raven Zuccari, Zachary Armstrong, Myles Paugh, Katie McKinney and Carrmichael Myatt; one great-grandson, Grayson Armstrong; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Midget.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Mary Sypolt; one sister, Sarah Grace Fisher; and two brothers, Timothy R. Sypolt, Sr. and Donald Lee “Scruffy” Sypolt.
Friends may call at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25, and from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, until the time of service at noon with Maynard Armstrong officiating.
To honor Hayseed’s wishes, the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home in Terra Alta will provide cremation services.
