James J. “Jim” Lake, 79, of Independence, passed away after a brief illness Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston. He was born on April 21, 1944, in Thornton, a son of Walter W. Lake, Jr. and Dorotha Mae (Jenkins) Stealey.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia H. (Wigley) Lake. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kim M. Lake and fiancé Prince Linton of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and his son, Harry J. “Jackie” Lake and wife Megan R. Lake of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Justice T. Redman, Kathryn E. Lake, and Carter J. Lake.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, William E. “Eugene” Lake.
He went to school in Grafton. He worked at the physical plant at West Virginia University for over 20 years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Family and friends will be received at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home, 950 George Washington Hwy Grafton, WV, from 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, until the funeral hour at 11 a.m. with Pastor Marty Turner presiding. Interment will follow at the Gladesville Cemetery. The Donald G. Ford Funeral Home is honored to serve the Lake Family during their time of need.
