Margaret Gallagher

Margaret “Peg” Wiley Gallagher passed away earlier this summer with most of her family in her company. Peg was born Jan. 17, 1932, and raised on a farm in Union, as the youngest of five children. On the family farm she loved to ride her horse. She went through nurses training in Huntington before she wed Navy man, Robert “Bob” Gallagher, in 1955. And so began a marriage that lasted 67 years and gave birth to seven children and too many housing moves to contemplate. She and Bob did end up back in their home state, in the city of Morgantown, where they spent most of their lives. She did all this with love and kindness and generosity. Too, she had a fighting spirit, toughness, and resilience when called upon. Family was her most first and final priority. Her friends were all dear friends and part of her family. She showed her love in all things but it was most tenderly expressed in the smallest of ways: the preparation of a birthday dinner; the neatly wrapped sliced-in-half lunch box sandwich; the cards sent on special occasions; a ready and gentle laugh. She thought herself wonderfully blessed to have fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren — the apples of her eyes that produced stars in her eyes. As long as we, her remaining six children and our families, stay tethered to this earth, Mom, you are here with us. Thank you for all and everything.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please spread love and kindness.
