Betty Zator

Betty Jo Powley Zator, passed away peacefully on Aug. 31, 2023, in Maidsville. Born on Oct. 20, 1937, in Morgantown, she was the daughter of Earl C. and Christine Phillips Powley.

Betty was a proud graduate of Leetsdale High School, Class of 1956. She married Ludwig ‘Snooks’ Zator in 1961, and although they later divorced, their marriage blessed them with three children. She spent her professional career working at various establishments, including Hills Department Store, as a receptionist at St. Francis High School, and many years at the Morgantown Beauty School.

Possessing a deep love for her family, she leaves behind her children, Michelle Zator Salosky (Kip) of Maidsville, and Brian Zator (Lorie) of Waynesburg, Pa. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Lesa M. Zator. Betty was a cherished grandmother to Nicolas L. Zator of Waynesburg, Pa., and Meghan M. Salosky of Maidsville. She is also survived by her brothers, Keith (Donna) Powley and Kevin (Tina) Powley, along with several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Betty’s friends, Barb McCullough and Ruth Hewitt, were a significant part of her life. They shared many fond memories and were a source of joy and companionship for her.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Betty enjoyed cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers and WVU sports teams. In her quiet moments, she found joy in crocheting and knitting, creating countless cherished pieces for those she loved.

Betty will be remembered as a courageous, generous, and thoughtful woman. Her unwavering strength was an inspiration to all who knew her, and her generous spirit touched many lives. Her thoughtful nature made her a beloved figure in her community, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Betty’s death leaves a void in the lives of her loved ones, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide them. Her life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and resilience. She will be greatly missed.

A gathering to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm. in the Fred Jenkins Chapel of Prayer with Pastors Larry Morgan and Rich Schimansky co-officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery.
