William Williams

William Courtney “Billy” Williams, 95, of Grafton Road, Morgantown passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023, at Madison Rehab & Nursing Center in Morgantown.

A lifelong resident of Monongalia County, he was born Sept. 7, 1927, the son of the late Omer Courtney and Dean Griffith Williams.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict.He worked for 39 ½ years at the Morgantown Glassware Guild and Seneca Glass Factory, and for the Monongalia County Board of Education for 6 years.He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 548 where he served as commander from 1975-76, as well as the Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 2364. Billy was one of the 40 original charter members that formed the Clinton District Volunteer Fire Department in 1948 and was the last surviving active charter member. He was also the leader of the Tri District Sing for several years.

He is survived by one sister, Rosalie and spouse, Gerald Liston of Wadsworth, Ohio; three nephews, James (Nancy), Mark, and Jay Liston; two great-nephews; four nieces and several cousins; and brother-in-law, Gerald.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosalie, and Elizabeth Williams.

Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29. A committal service will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with his nephew James Liston officiating with a prayer and the 23rd Psalm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Clinton District Fire Department, 1989 Grafton Road, Morgantown, West Virginia 26508.
