The choral artists of Maestri Vocale will present “They Are a Part of Us: A COVID Memorial Concert” at 2 p.m. Sunday at Spruce Street United Methodist Church in Morgantown.
The performance will feature music focused on mourning, remembrance and comfort.
Maestri Vocale originally planned this program for September 2021, but the concert has been delayed twice by COVID surges.
Organizers said they are delighted to finally be able to remember and honor those whose lives have been lost to COVID, and to explore how the living deal hopefully and constructively with change and loss.
The concert is free and open to the public. Donations to Maestri Vocale will be accepted via a goodwill offering.
The centerpiece of the program will be “ Requiem for the Living ” by Dan Forrest. The choir will be accompanied by an instrumental ensemble of flute, oboe, horn, percussion, harp, violin, cello and organ. In addition, the treble and bass choirs will each perform several pieces on their own.
Maestri Vocale was formed in 2019 to bring choral artistry to the Mountain State. The organization is comprised of two individual choirs, Maestri Vocale Treble (SSAA) and Maestri Vocale Bass (TTBB). The ensembles perform separately and also combine to present joint programs.
The group will also perform the show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Clarksburg.
