Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia Inc. (YCF) has announced a new endowment fund as part of its $1 Million Match Campaign.
The BFS Addiction Prevention Fund was created with a $10,000 donation.
The fund will provide support to programs geared to lessen and alter the destructive impact of alcohol and drug addiction on children and their families through education and professional support at the grassroots level. Eligible charitable organizations will reside within YCF’s service area — which includes Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Preston and Taylor counties.
BFS Companies began in 1974 as an agriculture business with the first store, Southern States, in Bruceton Mills. Today, the business is spread across several states with four Southern States stores, 21 petroleum bulk plants, more than 75 BFS Foods convenience stores and 11 liquor stores. BFS employs more than 2,000 people and is headquartered in Morgantown.
“Recognizing the devastating impact of addiction, BFS is committed to supporting prevention initiatives in the communities where we live and work,” Marshall Bishop, owner of BFS Companies, said. “We are pleased to partner with YCF in supporting grassroots organizations working to alleviate the addiction epidemic.”
As part of YCF’s $1 Million Match Campaign, BFS Companies’ donation will be matched 100% to the YCF Addiction Prevention Initiative Fund by an anonymous donor.
“On behalf of YCF, we want to thank Mr. Bishop and BFS Companies for supporting their community,” said Patty Showers Ryan, YCF president. “The annual earnings from this fund will provide grant dollars to local groups in our region doing the important day-to-day work to fight addiction.”
To date, YCF has received $925,000 towards the $1 Million goal. For more information, call YCF at 304-296-3433, or visit ycfwv.org
