Cynthia Downs

Cynthia Glover Downs passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at her home in Charlotte, N.C., after a lengthy illness. She was born on November 21, 1956, in Morgantown, to the late Maxine Graham Glover and Frank Wintford Glover.

Cindy graduated from Morgantown High School in 1973 and cum laude from West Virginia University in 1979. She was married to Gregory A. Downs of Charlotte, and she and Greg celebrated their twenty-third wedding anniversary in June. Cindy was employed in various aspects of banking and commercial real estate finance for many years, working in Morgantown, Winston Salem, N.C., Atlanta, Ga., and most recently in Charlotte. She loved nothing better than listening to all kinds of music, growing big juicy tomatoes in her garden and building glorious bonfires on summer and fall evenings at their cabin on Lake Wylie. She was a supremely loyal West Virginia University Mountaineer sports fan and watched every game during football season with unrestrained enthusiasm. Cindy’s big, beautiful smile, wonderful laugh and sunny and engaging personality will forever be a lasting memory to all who knew her and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Gregory A. Downs; sister, Suzanne G. Sales and her husband, William of New York; brother-in-law, Steven W. Downs and his wife, Paula of Feeding Hills, Mass., and their children Johnathan, Skylar, and Samantha; and her cousin, Frank T. Cromer of Bruceton Mills. Cindy is also survived by her faithful dog, Lucy.

Funeral services will be held in the Francis Chapel at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, N.C., at noon on Thursday, August 10. The family will receive friends following the service in Jubilee Hall. Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, at East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Cindy to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or https://www.cancer.org/.
