Byron Dee Tennant of Core, passed away peacefully in his home on August 4th, 2023, at the age of 72 after a long battle with cancer.
Byron is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Bernice; his son, Dr. Christopher Tennant; his brother, David Tennant; his sister, Kay Fordyce; his grandchildren, Luke Nelson Tennant and Julia Rose Tennant, and families; and his dog, Elvis.
Byron was born on December 16, 1950, in Miracle Run, during the winter “storm that topped the fenceposts,” to Wilbur and Stella Tennant. His family moved to Wadestown when he was 5, and he lived there until starting work as an auto mechanic in Blacksville as a teenager. He married his high school sweetheart, Bernice, in 1969. After working in construction and at an auto dealership service department, he began working in the WVU Computing Services Department in the 1970s, retiring in 2013. His hobbies included fishing, woodworking, and photography.
Byron’s family would like to encourage everyone to manage their blood pressure, and to conduct all recommended cancer screenings, for your loved ones.
Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home, 5894 Mason-Dixon Highway, Blacksville, WV from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will follow in the Olive Cemetery at Pentress.
