Robert Baylor

Robert Lyndin Baylor, 79, of Reedsville, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, following a sudden cardiac episode. Bob was born on August 3, 1943, at Independence, a son of the late Charles Odbert and Myrtle Marie (Furner) Baylor. His wife of 48 years, Agnes (Loughry) Baylor, preceded him in death on October 21, 2012.

Bob was highly respected within the community and touched many lives over the years. He was a man of tremendous faith and a child of God. He was a born again Christian and a member at “He’s Alive Tabernacle”, where he served as pastor. His ministry was most important to him. He had an incredible positive influence on the community through his service as a Deputy Sheriff, working in the school system and ministering. He retired in 2005 from the Preston County Sheriff’s Department where he was a Sergeant, and he was instrumental in establishing the D.A.R.E. program in Preston County. He was also the School Resource Officer at Preston High School. After his retirement he served as a security officer for the Preston County Magistrate Court. He had also worked as a truck driver for Jenmar Company and Cecil Brewer. One of his greatest joys was becoming a “Pappy” to his grandson Wyatt Richman, and sharing stories of Wyatt’s surprising capabilities.

Surviving are one daughter, Jennifer Richman, and husband Mark; one grandson, Wyatt Richman; two brothers, Charles R. Baylor and wife Karen, and Richard Baylor and wife Edna; one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Emma Pyles; many nieces and nephews; and close family friend, Linda Royce and the Royce family.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a special nephew, Heath Pyles; and his mother and father-in-law, Arthur and Lelah Loughry
Friends will be received at the Morgan Funeral Home in Reedsville from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 27. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday, July 28, with Senior Pastor John Wagner officiating. Interment to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Marquess.

The Baylor family would like to send a special thank you to Senior Pastor and close friends John and Tonya Wagner of “He’s Alive Tabernacle”, as well as Joe and Sandy Cole, Barb Naylor and his many loving neighbors and church family who took time to check on Bob and make him his favorite homemade cakes and cookies.
