Tires damaged by debris on I-79 bridge

West Virginia Division of Highways District 4 Manager Mike Daley said two vehicles sustained flat tires after crossing the I-79 bridge at Tom’s Run on Sunday.

Daley said emergency repairs were put in place Sunday and the DOH returned Monday to make those repairs permanent.

Daley went on to say that wood shown in photos posted to social media is not supporting the bridge, but was used as a form for a concrete pour.

The Tom’s Run bridge will be addressed as part of a $62,455,000 project by Triton Construction to renovate 13 bridges along a 40-mile stretch between Lost Creek and I-68, near Morgantown.

According to a December press release, that work was expected to begin this past spring.

Another three pairs of bridges are being replaced in a separate $45,563,870 contract, also with Triton Construction.

“The two contracts combined will replace or renovate all the major bridges along I-79 in north central and northern West Virginia,” Daley explained.
