Shirley Moats

Shirley Ann Moats, 77, of Rowlesburg, passed away July 5, 2023, at her residence. She was born July 1, 1946, in Kingwood, a daughter of the late Gordon Leonard Moats and Ruby Katherine Moats.

Shirley was a loving mother and wife, devoted to family and God. Over the years, she was a homemaker, and a caregiver for several children and elderly friends. Shirley loved the simple things in life, like gardening, animals, picnics, and her most treasured gem, her family. She was a driver for the Buckwheat Express, a cashier at Foodland and later Save-A-Lot, and she worked at the Rowlesburg Bank and Preston-Taylor Medical Clinics, alongside her husband.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Lonnie Wesley Moats; a son, Rick “Moose” Moats and Bea, of Morgantown; a daughter, Jeannie Chandler and Fred, of Terra Alta; six grandchildren, Adam Hauger, Nick Moats, Damien Moats, Savannah Mayne, Ashley Kemper, and Ricky Dodd; six great-grandchildren, Madison Hovatter, with whom she had a special connection, Luke Mayne, Bella Dodd, Brooklyn Kemper, Jaden Moats, and Emily Faye Moats; three brothers, Leonard, Bobby, and David Moats; three sisters, Rose Brown, Martha Smith, and Jennifer Graham; and several nieces and nephews.

At her request, no funeral or viewing will take place and cremation services will be handled by Kingwood Funeral Home and Crematory, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, WV 26537. A Celebration of Life picnic will be held at a later date.
