Richard Lee Stone “Gee”, 92, of Fellowsville, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023, surrounded by loved ones on his farm. He was born on March 2, 1931, in Newburg, the son of the late Alva and Mittie (Wolfe) Stone. Richard was a coal miner of 32 years and retired from Badger Coal Company in Philippi. Richard’s life and hard work was dedicated to his family and farm. He was a caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Richard was a lifelong horseman and lived out his dream of owning and raising horses. He hosted annual trail rides and people would come from all over the country to join in. He enjoyed going to horse sales, farm auctions and was an avid fox and deer hunter. Richard never stopped working on the farm or caring for his animals. In his later years he would be found on his tractor or in his swing overlooking the farm. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was the youngest and last surviving of his immediate family and will be deeply missed. Richard is survived by his six children, Jeanne Wagner and Charles, Rowlesburg, Richard A. Stone of Newburg, Christeen Dalton of Morgantown, Roger Stone of Fellowsville, Charles Stone and Rose of Newburg, Michael Stone of Fellowsville; one son-in-law, Kenny Dalton of Arthurdale; eight grandchildren, Melissa Hiser and Robert of Morgantown, Clarissa Moats and Virgil of New Creek, Jenny Taylor and Josh of Rowlesburg, Crystal Bennett and Chris of Morgantown, Wendy Taylor and Steve of Arthurdale, Jessie Stone and Angie of Fellowsville, April Simpson of Arthurdale, Eric Dalton of Fairmont; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Katty) Kathleen Lambert Stone in 2019; one daughter, Sharon Dalton in 2021; six sisters, Ruth Larew, Mildred Stafford, Berthel Bolyard, Thelma Moore, Dorothy Larue and Edna Lindemood; three brothers, Kenny Stone, Willow Stone and Donald Stone; one son-in-law, Gary Morgan; one daughter-in-law, Berneda Rutherford.
Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave. Newburg, WV, from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, and on Wednesday, July 12, from 9 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jon Henry. Private Interment will be at the Stone Family Cemetery.
