Mary A. (Watkins) Auvil, age 84, of Independence, passed away, Tuesday, July 5, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born in Taylor County, October 19, 1938, a daughter of the late Lonnie Van Buren Watkins and Josephine (Collins) Watkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Calvin Auvil, Sr.
Mary was a member of the Goshen Baptist Church, and employed at the Kinney Shoe Factory, but most of all she loved her family and was a mother to all. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, doing plastic canvas, gardening, cookouts, traveling, and going out to eat.
She is survived by one son, Howard Auvil Jr. and girlfriend Teresa Messenger; one daughter, Kathy M. Bledsoe, all of Independence; two brothers, Erschel Watkins and Dale Watkins; two sisters, Juanita Wyatt and Wilma Larue; two grandchildren, Christina Adams and husband Keith, and Jessica Adams and husband Tyler; three great-grandchildren, Maddie Downey, Ellie Adams, and Cole Adams.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one son in law, Herbert E. Bledsoe, and several brothers and sisters.
Friends may call at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, from 4-9 p.m. on Friday, July 7, and Saturday, from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2023 at the funeral home. Pastor Daniel Meadows officiating. Interment at Gordon Cemetery.
