Doris Hawker

Doris Lucille Sands Hawker, 84, of Morgantown, went home to be with Jesus on June 29, 2023. She was born September 1, 1938, in Confluence, Pa., a daughter of the late Robert and Alma (Ream) Sands of Confluence, Pa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael J Hawker (1990); her sister, Virginia Lemmon (2002); and her loving husband, Jack Hawker (2005).

Doris is survived by daughters, Lisa Janoske (Bill) of Oakland, Md., Connie Gibson (Larry) of Manassas, Va.; son, Richard Hawker, Morgantown; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Rachael Gibson of Franklin Farm, Va., Erin Coleman (Cyrus) of Manassas, Va. (Eva, Darius, and Lola), Megan Wilson (JT) of Bealeton, Va. (Gavin and Kohli), Michael Gibson of Manassas, Va. (Mazie-Grace), Will Janoske (Mary Kay) of Oakland, Md. (Jordon and Hayley), Jena Janoske of Oakland, Md. (Bentley and Aiden), Jack Janoske (Katelynn) of Oakland, Md. (Remijoe and Ivalynn); her lifelong friend Debra Cyphert (Robert) of Morgantown; along with her immediate family, and many extended family members and friends.

Doris was a wonderful seamstress, cook, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmama and friend. She loved to sew, quilt, crochet and craft her whole life and create beautiful treasures for her friends and family along with many donations that she created during her lifetime. She enjoyed participating in rendezvous with her husband, Jack. She was involved in many clubs and organizations such as Girl Scouts, Red Hats, Quilt Club, Extension Homemakers, Daughters of the American Revolution, Minerd Family History, and a member of the WV Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum, home of the Sagebrush Round-Up Music Show in Fairmont, just to name a few. She loved going to music shows and listening to her husband, Jack, daughter, Lisa and son-in-law Bill over the course of her lifetime. She especially loved being surrounded by her family.

Condolences may be made in the form of flowers, donations in her memory to the WV Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum (PO Box 1709, Fairmont, WV 26554).

Friends and family will gather at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home from noon on Monday, July 3, until time of services at 2 p.m. with Pastor Barbara Hamrick officiating. She will rest with her husband at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
