Don’t do windows?
That’s OK. Because Spider-Man, Batman, The Flash and Captain America do.
The team of superheroes took some time off from saving the world on Tuesday, instead strapping on some rappelling gear to get the many windows of WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital sparkly clean.
Their moonlighting efforts were part of a two-day visit by the heroes to lift the spirits of patients and staff at the hospital.
“We do athletes, special characters, like Santa Claus, but I’ve never seen the kids respond the way they did,” Bri Clark, marketing and event strategist, said of the costumed guests from B&B Window Cleaning and Services, out of Pittsburgh.
This marked the first time the professional cleaners donned costumes for a cleaning — but it won’t be the last, Clark said. The hospital plans to make it an annual event.
Before taking it outside on Tuesday, Spidey, Batman, The Flash and Captain America spent Monday making the rounds, visiting kids in every department. A meet-and-greet was held in the Hostetler Family Resource Center for those who could come down, Clark said. Then, for those who couldn’t, the superheroes went straight to them, room by room — even stopping by pre- and post-op.
“It was honestly hilarious,” Clark said of the children’s reaction in those departments. “Their minds were blown.”
The cleaners from B&B Window Cleaning and Services will continue their work through the week — but they’ll go back to wearing their regular work clothes.
“They were so amazing,” Clark said. “I really cannot speak of them highly enough.”
And you didn’t have to be young to enjoy it, she said. Just young at heart.
“It was really something for everybody here.”
