Vernon “Bud” Ray Stone, 86 of Scotch Hill Community, Newburg, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023, at his residence with family by his side. He was born on May 2, 1937, in Newburg (Possum Hollow Road), son of the late Kenneth and Berley (Bolyard) Stone. Bud previously worked as a Coal Miner at Badger Coal, Kitt Energy and Hovatter Mining with over thirty years before retiring. He was a Methodist by Faith. He enjoyed going to sales and auctions, getting scratch off tickets, fixing weed eaters, camping, fishing, running the roads and being outdoors. Bud is survived by his wife whom he married on September 29, 1956, Bertie Mae (Zirkle) Stone; four children, Sheila J (Ringer) Braddock and Joseph of Independence, Kenneth D. Stone and Loretta of Newburg, Wilma Summers and companion, Mark Jackson, Thornton, Dennis J. Stone, Scotch Hill; one daughter-in-law, Pamela Stone of Philippi; 10 grandchildren, Delbert and companion, April, Amy and companion, Jimmy, Melissa and Jerry, Jeffery and Candice, Amanda and Ronnie, KW and Ginny, Jesse and companion Jessica, Cody and Brooke, Krystle and Rennes, Cory and Sara; 20 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Conner, Sabrina, Kaitlin, Austin, Stefen, Savanna, Mitchell, Clayton, Hannah, Ryan, Braylynn, Brinlee, Amya, Madsion, Zoe, Leandra, Penelope, Cohen and Eva; and three great-great-grandchildren, Waylon, Georgy and Michael Ray; one sister, Rosemary Winters of Marquess; one sister-in-law, Deloris Stone of Marquess; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bud is preceded in death by one son, Danny Stone on April 2023; six sibling, Kenneth Paul Stone, Jerry Stone, Dorothy Bowman and husband, Ralph, Betty Bowman and husband, Buck, Anna Mae Cline and husband, Adam, Yvonne Colebank and husband, Argle; one brother-in-law, Albert Winters Jr. Family and friends will be received at the Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave. Newburg, from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, June 30, and Saturday, July 1, from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sam Cline officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Israel Cemetery. Bolyard Funeral Home is honored to serve the Stone family.
