A Monongalia County resident’s punch recipe won the state contest held in conjunction with West Virginia’s 160th birthday party.
Gov. Jim Justice and the First Lady Cathy Justice announced the winner of the West Virginia birthday punch contest at West Virginia’s 160th birthday party held at the State Cultural Complex on Tuesday.
The contest invited West Virginian’s to submit an original non-alcoholic punch recipe, and the winning recipe was served at the celebration.
Cindy Scott submitted a recipe that she and her friend, Sandy Murdock, developed while students at West Virginia University.
They slightly modified it as their families grew and they made their original punch recipe to celebrate birthday parties, graduations, bridal showers, holiday celebrations.
Scott and Murdock were presented with certificates and their punch was served to the governor and the First Lady during the ceremony. Everyone was then invited to enjoy punch and birthday cake as the celebration continued.
The recipe
- 1 12-ounce can frozen orange juice
- 1 12-ounce can frozen lemonade
- 2 2-liter bottles ginger ale
- 1 16-ounce jar maraschino cherries, include juice
- 1 can mandarin oranges, drained
- Combine and mix well
- Punch ring
- Lemonade
- 1 jar maraschino cherries, include juice
- 1 can mandarin oranges, drained
- Fill bundt pain with all ingredients and freeze
