Lorin Bowmar

Lorin Russell Bowmar, 85, of Tunnelton, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 22, 1938, in Tunnelton, a son of the late Marven Allen and Letha Lavara (Rosier) Bowmar. His wife, Diona “June” (Wiles) Bowmar, preceded him in death Dec. 10, 2012.

Lorin graduated from Tunnelton High School and served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany during the Cold War. Lorin was a West Virginia state mine inspector, and was a self-employed taxidermist and farmer. He was a member of the Mt. View United Methodist Church, a 40-plus-year member of the Tunnelton Lions Club and the Col. Rowan Post VFW #2345 of Tunnelton. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing. He was an avid volunteer at the Boy Scouts, and local schools, teaching school children about Flag Day. He was a mentor to many in the community.

Surviving are one son Blain Bowmar and wife Melissa “Missy”, Newburg; one brother, Delbert Allen Bowmar, Port Richie, Fla.; one sister, Betty Luola Kimmins and husband Calvin, Dallas, Marshall County; one sister-in-law, Lovetta Funk, of Tunnelton; several nieces, nephews and many close friends.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Marvin “Rusty” Russell Bowmar, who passed Oct. 18, 2001; two brothers, Lester Allen Bowmar and Blake Wilbur Bowmar.

Friends may call at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price St., Kingwood, on Friday from 2-7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am, Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the Mt. View United Methodist Church, Tunnelton. Mr. Bowmar will lie in repose at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour with Pastor Bill Warnick officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the honor details of VFWs and Vietnam Veterans of Preston County and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
