John Shoemaker, Sr., 76, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Morgantown Healthcare Center. He was born June 22, 1946, in Fairmont, a son of the late Loyal Amos and Gertrude Furman Shoemaker.
John was a talented machinist by trade and in his spare time a gifted carpenter. He enjoyed tending to his yard and traveling to Las Vegas. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Sherry Shoemaker Newcome and husband Michael, John Shoemaker, Jr., Steven Shoemaker, Stacy Marie Moore and husband Jeremy; stepdaughter, Amanda Shaffer and husband Michael; his girlfriend, Brenda Dalton; his grandchildren Channing Shoemaker, Rosemary Chase, Jessica Newcome, Mitchell Newcome, Garrette Shoemaker and wife Sarah, Nicole Shoemaker, Joni Lee Shoemaker, Brooke Rowe, Brittany Flynn and husband Thomas, Brandi Lewis, Cheyne Lewis, Sadie Moore, Caleb Moore, Steven Shoemaker, Jr., Hunter Shoemaker, Daniel Robinson, Dakota Shaffer, Maddie Shaffer, and Jonah Shaffer; and his great-grandchildren Jacoby Shoemaker, Amelia Shoemaker, Jaiden Shoemaker, Athena Suiter, and Lennox Suiter.
John is also survived by his brothers, Loyal ‘Junior’ Shoemaker, Jr., Donald ‘Duke’ Shoemaker; sisters Neda Glover, Donna West, Cynthia ‘Cindy’ Miller, Susan Sheppard; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ethel Rosalie Hupp Shoemaker; brothers, William ‘Bill’ Shoemaker, Percy ‘Perry’ Shoemaker; and sisters, June Cryderman, Nancy Morgan, Valerie Sigley, and Krista Shoemaker.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Monday, June 12, 2023, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and again from 10 a.m. on Tuesday until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Donna Dalton officiating. John will be laid to rest at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
