If you ever wanted to gallop into history there’s still time.
Well, not exactly gallop, but run or walk through it — or just be on hand to cheer on participants in Saturday’s 5k Goat Gallop in historic Arthurdale.
Not to mention the opportunity to mingle with Arthurdale Heritage’s friendly homestead goats at the race’s outset at 9 a.m. and at the finish line.
Race day registration will be available on site from 7:30-8:45 a.m. An untimed 1-mile Kids Race course will also be available for children 10 and younger.
The course runs through Arthurdale, still home to scores of 1930s era New Deal houses, and is mostly flat with one steep grade. The course is 3.1 miles long. The kid’s run is flat.
Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome to participate in the 5k. There will be water stations throughout the course and a water and snack station will also be available after the race.
After the races there will be set ups for family-friendly fun and activities with the goats. Activities for the 5k will conclude at 1 p.m.
Later, from 7-9 p.m., there will be live music and a square dance in historic Center Hall, where Eleanor Roosevelt once danced. Tickets for the dance are $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 6-10.
The most up to date information can be found on the Facebook page about the 5k and the square dance. Or email arthurdale heritage.org or call 304-864-3959.
The craft shop will also be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and tours of Arthurdale are available.
