Nursing Training

The West Virginia University School of Nursing hosted a day camp Friday for high school students who are interested in nursing.

High school students throughout West Virginia who are considering a career in nursing were invited to the camp, held at the WVU Health Sciences West Virginia Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) Center.

During the one-day event, students could experience what it’s like to be a nursing student by participating in an information session, a mock lecture and hands-on learning opportunities at the STEPS Center.

The David and Jo Ann Shaw STEPS center houses patient simulators ranging from premature babies to adults, including ultrasoundable models. State of the art technology — and a highly adaptable simulation set from student learners to hospital professionals — fosters analytical, diagnostic and communication skills, according to information about the center.

With the West Virginia Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety center, WVU students learn life-saving procedures, develop interprofessional communication skills and use new technologies, before they get into patient care environments.
