CHARLESTON — Applications are still being accepted for the 43rd annual state Junior Conservation Camp.
Sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s (WVDEP) Youth Environmental Program, the five-day, overnight camp is scheduled for June 19-23 at Cedar Lakes in Ripley, Jackson County.
The camp is open ages 11-14 at no cost with a scholarship. Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all scholarships have been allotted, participants can still register at a cost of $175 per camper.
The deadline to register for the camp is Monday.
A day at camp includes classes on topics such as recycling, forestry, hunter safety, wildlife, water study and much more. Other activities include archery, canoeing, swimming, hiking and various sports.
Instruction is provided by professionals from the WVDEP, Division of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry, West Virginia University Extension and other volunteers.
