James Lester

James D. Lester, 90, of Morgantown passed away at Mon Health Medical Center on Sunday May 14, 2023. He was born in Morgantown on October 18, 1932, the son of the late Frank and Catherine (Fitzpatrick) Lester. Jim graduated from St. Francis Highschool in 1950. Married Virginia in 1952. He transitioned from the coal mines to a career in Life Insurance Sales in the early sixties until his retirement in 1999. He was President of WV Association of Life Underwriter’s from 1986–87 and served on all the chairs, on June 10, 1999, he was also awarded the James F. Williams award in recognition of the many years of service he dedicated to the WV Association of Life Underwriter’s. His sales career afforded him to make many friends and acquaintances over the years, which he always held close to his heart. He enjoyed a great social life and especially time with friends and family. Activities included worldwide cruises/travel with Virginia and family. His love for sports was enjoyed daily and Mountaineer Football was always #1. He never missed a game. Cuisine dining was a passion, and he always knew where the best restaurants were, (Jim Beam was often a companion). He believed in heaven and earth and his faith was always part of his life. Jim was also a lifelong member of St Theresa’s Catholic Church and attended and graduated from St Francis grade and high school. He was also member of Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Virginia Mary Lester enjoying 68 wonderful years together; and brothers, Frank Lester and Father John Lester. Jim is survived by his sister, Patricia “Sister Karen”; children, Jimmy (Janice), Joseph, Patrick (Teddie Jo) and Christopher; grandchildren: Keegan, Paige (Joey) Rubinstein, Laura (Eric) Henry, Luke, Adam, Alex, Malinda, Ashley and Jessica (Huston) Strader; great-grandchildren: Stella, Lillian, Olivia, Madison, Brayden, Mark and Jocelyn; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wonderful sister-in-law, Anna Marie Hughes, who were all very special to him. Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with cremation arrangements. Friends and family will be received at St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, 1 Guthrie Lane, Morgantown WV, from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday June 2, and again on Saturday June 3 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati as celebrant. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to St. Francis Catholic School, 1 Guthrie Lane, Morgantown, WV 26508.
