Agatha Maria Jansen, 85, died May 15, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Morgantown. She was surrounded by her family when she was called to Heaven.
Aggie was born February 11, 1938, to Jacob and Elisabeth Sassen Schreurs in Roermond, The Netherlands. She was one of five children and was born right before the start of WWII.
It was in Roermond where she met the love of her life, Alex Jansen. They were married October 11, 1958 and promptly boarded a ship bound for New York, NY. From there they took a train to Elkhart, Ind. where they stayed a short time with their sponsors, Lainie and Richard Posthuma. Aggie and Alex lived for over 60 years in Elkhart raising their family and running their painting business.
Aggie was preceded in death by her husband, Alex; her sisters, Gerta Schreurs, Katherine Schreurs Bartelink; and her brother, Leo Schreurs.
She is survived by her youngest sister, Jean Schreurs Baini; her daughters and their partners, Nicole and Daniel Panaccione, Karina Jansen and Dragon Meijic, Emily Jansen and Brian Gehrs. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren grow into adults, Maria Panaccione, Alex Panaccione, Pavle Meijic and Ari Meijic.
Aggie loved exploring and adventure, which fueled her desire to move to the United States. Aggie loved to tell stories, especially about growing up in Holland. Her favorite dance partner was her beloved Alex, they loved swing and polkas. Aggie loved old movies, especially westerns and cowboys. She loved listening to music from the big band era to Motown to Gypsy Kings. She took immense pride in cooking meals and making a home for her family. After she moved to Morgantown, the biggest surprise was she converted into being the biggest cat lover, especially her little Foxy.
Agatha spent nearly three months at Ruby before coming home to hospice. She was a favorite with her nurses because she was so sweet. A special thank you to the kind nurses we crossed paths with during this time, especially at Amedysis Hospice, Village Care, Encompass and Morgantown Healthcare Center.
A very special thank you to her friend, Lynda Mitchell, who took her out to lunches and on countryside drives, helped with chores, chit chatted, and snuck her chocolates. Our hearts are strengthened knowing we will meet again in heaven. Until then, we send you our love everyday.
Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral & Cremation Care of Westover/ Morgantown.
