MORGANTOWN — The Trinity baseball team scored 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to keep its season alive on Wednesday, defeating Notre Dame 12-7 at Mylan Park.
Playing in a Class A Region 2, Section 2 elimination game, the Warriors trailed the Irish 7-2 entering the bottom of the sixth on Wednesday but collected five hits and drew seven walks en route to putting 10 runs on the board in the frame.
“Notre Dame came ready to play and we didn’t have an answer offensively until the bottom of the 6th when they made a pitching change,” Trinity coach Wes Hopkins said via text after the game. “I kept telling the guys to stay the course and trust themselves. They dug deep and we took advantage of their pitchers not locating and we were able to get some runners on and got some timely hits to put up 10 runs.”
Noah Toler, Will McPherson, Thomas Dinkel and Carmelo Kniska led the offense with multiple hits each. Kniska and Toler led TCS with two RBI apice.
Freshman Parker Hopkins pitched all seven innings for the Warriors, striking out 10 and walking three. He allowed seven hits and seven runs but only one was earned as TCS made five errors behind him in the field.
The Warriors will host Tygarts Valley, who defeated Clay-Battelle 4-3 in extra innings, later today.
