ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Oh. — The Morgantown boys and girls track team both won team titles Saturday at the OVAC Cal Griffin Track Championship at Red Devil Stadium in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
The MHS girls won with a team score of 144, the highest of any class and far ahead of second-place Wheeling Park (62) in Class 5A.
The Mohigans had seven events winners on the girls’ side. Morgan Ryan won the pole vault (10-00), Irene Riggs won the 1600 (4:52.14), Sasha Hunter won the 400 (1:01.53), Anna Lester won the 800 (2:18.76), Amelia Summers won the 3200 (10:55.05), and the 4×800 (9:33.98) and 4×100 (50.37) relay teams won. The 4×800 team was Madeline Gump, Sophie Renner, Riggs and Summers and the 4×100 team was Belicia McKendall, Grave Devall, Josie Johnson and Izayah Everett.
Morgantown also had six runners-up with Jennifer O’Palko in the 1600 (5:04.61), McKendall in the 400 (1:01.66), Gump in the 3200 (11:36.53) and the 4×200 and 4×400 relays.
Also on the girls’ side, University’s Paige Conrad took first place in the long jump (15-09.25) and second place in the 300 hurdles (49.49).
In Class 1A/2A, Trinity Christian’s Evangelia Berry won the 3200 (12:00.97) and Jenna Barnett was second in the 1600 (5:25.21). Clay-Battelle took second in the 4×100 shuttle hurdle relay (1:12.90).
On the boys’ side, Morgantown won with a team score of 100, edging out second-place Wheeling Park at 92.
MHS had three event winners in Alexander Horne in the discus (129-10), Brodrick Washington in the long jump (21.05.5) and the 4×110 shuttle hurdle relay team of Alex Tadros, Hayden Casdorph, Seth Wisman and Jacob Meyer (58.93).
Will McGahey took second place in both the discus (126.07) and shot put (47-04.4) and Keonn Arnold was second in the 400 (52.39).
For University, Tyler Umbright won the 1600 (4:20.93), Jack Overfield won the 800 (1:59.19), the 4×800 relay team won and Jacob West was second in the 3200 (9:53.82).
In Class 1A/2A, Clay-Battelle took second place in the 4×100 (45.31) and Zac Hall was second in the 100 (11.12). Trinity Christian had three runners-up in the 4×800 (9:22.23), 4×200 (1:33.66) and Joshua Jorge in the 400 (52.59).
