MORGANTOWN — Morgantown High School basketball point guard Sharron Young added to his list of offers from Division I programs on Thursday, with the latest being his first Power-5 and coming from his hometown school of WVU.
Before the Mountaineers, Young had several Division I offers from programs like Drexel, Redford, Youngstown State, Mount St. Mary’s and Southeast Louisiana.
“Sharron is a relentless worker,” MHS head coach Dave Tallman said. “He has been dominant in his first three years of high school and has been a warrior for us.”
Young helped lead MHS to back-to-back state championships the past two seasons, and his performance in the 2023 state tournament was one to be remembered. He was only one assist shy of a triple-double in the state championship game against Parkersburg South.
“I feel very blessed to be from Morgantown and be given this opportunity,” Sharron said on Thursday. “I have a lot of really great schools that have expressed interest and the power 5 offer really feels amazing and is another checkmark on the list of the goals I have set.”
This spring, Young earned the opportunity to play for Midwest AAU on the top AAU circuit in the country. Last weekend, he proved he could compete with the best talent in the country averaging 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.0 steals in the four games played for the 20th-ranked AAU team in the country.
“Midwest has been an unbelievable opportunity and I can’t imagine my last summer of AAU being any better,” Young said. “It’s a phenomenal program and well respected.”
Young still has one more year with MHS before he moves on to college. He is just the third player from Morgantown High School to ever be offered by WVU, along with Jay Jacobs and Nathan Adrian.
