James Thomas

James “Jim” Milton Thomas, 81, of Kingwood, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Rosewood Center, Grafton. He was born in Friendsville, Md., Dec. 12, 1941, a son of the late Theodore Jackson Thomas and Grace Virginia Teets Thomas. His wife, Debora Leslie “Peach” Thomas preceded him in death July 20, 2020.

Jim was retired, having worked as a mechanic at various car dealerships throughout his career, including Scott Ford. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed country music and singing karaoke and writing songs. He was an avid NASCAR fan. His favorite quote was “May his body rise to Heaven before the devil find out he’s dead.”

Surviving are two sons, Johnny Lipscomb, of Kingwood, and J.R. Thomas, of Friendsville, Md.; two daughters, Celena Thomas, of Kingwood, and Gina Thomas, of Oakland Md.; one sister, Deb Punday and husband Jim, of Green Castle, Pa.; eight grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Abryonna Thomas, Derek Haynes and Gavine, Liam, Colton, August and Konner Lipscomb; one special niece, Tonya Helms; and a special nephew, Roy Sylvester.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded by three sisters and their spouses, Shirley Sylvester and Nace, June Schultz and John and Bonnie Sines and Marvin.

Friends may call at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price St., Kingwood, from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour on Monday. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 1 with the Rev. Ray Frankhouser officiating. At his request, Jim will be cremated. Full military honors will be accorded by the honor details of VFWs and Vietnam Veterans of Preston County, and the WVANG.
