DelRoy Davis

DelRoy Richard Davis Jr. (though he would be quick to tell you to call him “Dick”), 78, of Kingwood, passed away suddenly on April 20, 2023. He was the only son of the late Dr. D.R. Davis and Marie Davis.
After finishing high school, Dick served as a member of the National Guard and started his career as a foundry worker for Sheidow Bronze in Kingwood. Later, in retirement, he worked as a “Meals on Wheels” delivery driver and mechanic’s assistant for the Preston County Senior Center and Buckwheat Express. This was a job he loved, as it gave him the chance to sit and talk with people all over town.

On Oct. 5, 1968, Dick married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Deborah (Carr) Davis, who he adored endlessly. They raised a family that was his pride and joy. Deborah passed in 2013. He missed her terribly and remained devoted to her over the last 10 years speaking of her daily.

Those who had the pleasure to know or meet Dick knew he loved world history, old cars, wildlife, food and telling a great story. He loved reading Civil War magazines, enjoyed watching The History Channel, and reminiscing about the “old days.” If given the chance, he would gladly talk your ear off as he was never in a hurry to get anywhere, and you would undoubtedly hear a story about his family, a war general, an alligator hunter or his theory on where to find Sasquatch. Dick lived life by his own rules. He liked to tell people those rules just to get a good laugh. But ultimately, his love for his wife, pride for his family and his sweet, constantly positive demeanor will always be remembered.

He is survived by his two daughters, Audrey Davis and Julie Whetsell (Brandon). As well as a niece, Polly Fletcher, and all his “grand-pets” Boomer, Beanie, Slick, and Bear.

Flowers are welcome, or donations can be made in Dick’s memory to the Preston County Animal Shelter, as Dick loved and showed compassion for animals his entire life. Preston County Animal Shelter, 278 Poor Farm Road, Kingwood, WV 26537 by phone 304-329-3461.

Friends and family are invited to gather at the Kingwood Funeral Home & Crematory, 295 S. Price St., Kingwood, from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, and again from 10 a.m. until the of services at 11 a.m. on Monday with Pastor Kevin Sions officiating. Dick will be laid to rest with his beloved Deborah at the Maplewood Cemetery, Kingwood.
