Monongalia County Child Advocacy Center will host a free community event for teenagers and their parents, called Make Time to Unplug, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. today at Woodland United Methodist Church.
The event hopes to teach teens internet safety and help them find new activities to enjoy in the area.
Monongalia County Child Advocacy Center (MCCAC) advocates for children in Monongalia County who have been abused or encountered other significant adverse childhood experiences. The organization provides a collaborative and child-friendly environment where children and their families can be interviewed, educated and healed. MCCAC has been in operation since 2005. In 2022, it provided clinical services to 459 individuals.
Make Time to Unplug will consist of an internet safety presentation for teens, a parent education session about internet safety, free pizza and a chance for teens to explore new interests, hobbies and activities that can help reduce screen time. Several community organizations will be set up at the event for teens to learn about their services and get their questions answered on the spot.
To get free pizza, you must register by noon for the internet safety presentation.
There will also be chances to win prizes, basketball and a DJ.
