MORGANTOWN — The Monongalia County Democratic Executive Committee is taking names of party members interested in being considered to fill former Delegate Danielle Walker’s unexpired term.
Walker served in the 81st District and turned in her resignation letter on Monday in order to begin her new job as executive director of the ACLU West Virginia chapter on April 17.
The committee will provide Gov. Jim Justice with three nominees from which to select a new delegate. Justice must then within five days appoint one person from the list to fill the seat.
Registered Democrats who have lived within the 81st District for at least one year prior and who would like to be considered may email the executive committee with their full name, address of residence, length of residence at that address, phone number, email address, and a short bio.
Email Mon81stHOD@gmail.com. The deadline for consideration is April 16.
Walker opened her resignation letter by saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I pen these words, but I do so with a sense of purpose and conviction.” She recalls what inspired her to run for office — successfully, being elected in 2018.
“In the years since, I have tirelessly served and continuously shown up for the most vulnerable voices in our state,” she wrote.
“And while I have done all I can to move things forward, I recognize the limitations of our current political landscape, and seek a new pathway for change. … And so, with courage and determination, I will push forward, trusting in the goodness and mercy of the Almighty to guide me every step of the way.”
