Prep Roundup: Preston hosts Charlie Pritt Classic track meet

KINGWOOD – The Charlie Pritt Classic track and field meet was held on Thursday at the Dr. Trenton complex in Preston County.

Morgantown, University, Preston, and Trinity Christian all competed in the meet, and all had notable finishes throughout the races held.

The UHS boys took the top four spots in the 3200 meter (2 mile) run. Junior Drew Zundell finished in first by over 20 seconds with a time of 9:10.76.

Preston County junior Ella White then took first overall in the girls 400 meter dash clocking a 1:00.18. She was followed by three MHS runners (Sasha Hunter, Belicia McKendall, and Jennifer O’Palko) in the standings. Her fellow Knight, Jaxon Saucer earned third overall in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.73.

Sophomores Josie Johnson (MHS) and Paige Conrad (UHS) finished first and second in the girls 100-meter hurdles. Johnson edged Conrad by less than half of a second, finishing with a time of 16.61 to Conrad’s 17.00.

Paige turned around to win the 300 meter hurdles however, with a time of 50.33 later in the evening.

Back on the boys side, Trinity Christian finished second overall in the 4×100 meter relay race, ahead of both MHS and UHS. The team of Levi Teets, Kyle Knight, Brock Shuba, and Zane Yeater posted a time of 45.85, less than a second behind the winners.

To finish the night, Preston County took first overall in the girls 4×400 meter relay. The team of White, Sophia Saurino, Tryan Veltri, and Hallie Simmons clocked a time of 4:18.05. TCS took third in the race with a time of 4:33.90.

For the final overall scoes on the girls side, Morgantown High took first place with 178.5 points. UHS was second with 98, with Preston in third with 63.

Hawks perfect on spring trip

The University softball team went a perfect 5-0 on their spring trip to Myrtle Beach, SC this week.

UHS (11-2) defeated Bishop Kearny 10-0, Maple Grove 10-0, Eastside Spartans 6-3, Horsehead (NY) 6-5 and McDowell (Pa.) 5-3.

Morgantown 7, Parkersburg South 5

PARKERSBURG — Morgantown softball won on the road Thursday, topping Parkersburg South 7-5.

Micah Wilson led the MHS offense with four hits, an RBI and a run scored. Liz Alsop had three hits and scored two runs and Abigail Harki hit a double and drove in two.

Wilson also pitched the final three innings of the game and got the win, allowing two runs while striking out two.
