Clara DeWitt

Clara Jane DeWitt, 81, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, surrounded by family at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She was born in Clarksburg, on Aug. 29, 1941, daughter of the late Otis and Jettie Yeater.

In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Joe Yeater. Clara is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Thomas DeWitt; son, Timothy DeWitt; daughter, Jennifer DeWitt; brother, John and spouse Margaret Yeater; and sisters, Marjorie and spouse Paul Kiddy and Martha Yeater.

One of Clara’s best qualities was being a wonderful grandmother to many grandchildren, including Brandon DeWitt, Tiffany and Brian DeBiase, Kirk Riley, Hillary DeWitt and Emily DeWitt and Max Jacobson; and great-grandchildren, Gunner Riley, Seth DeBiase, Piper Hookala, Ryan Cahall, Grayson Cahall, Jackson Cahall and Miles Jacobson. She was also very closely involved in the lives of numerous nieces and nephews who loved her greatly.

Clara was a homemaker and involved in many community activities throughout her life. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, Cheat Lake CEOS and numerous volunteer programs. In her free time, Clara enjoyed going to her local church, doing puzzles, reading books and spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Friends and family are invited to gather at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, March 17, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Saturday with Pastor Jeremiah Bostic officiating. Following the service, Clara will be laid to rest at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
