Alvin Kerns

Alvin Dale Kerns, 78, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at Mon Health Medical Center. He was born May 14, 1944, in Grafton, a son of the late Philip Staley and Violet (Brown) Kerns.

He was a graduate of Morgantown High School and served in Germany in the United States Army. He was employed as a laborer and truck driver for various block companies in the area, including Duntile, Crawford Mascioli, Riverside Concrete and Morgantown Brick (owned by JF Allen in Buckhannon). He was a gentleman farmer and enjoyed raising cattle and harvesting hay. He loved the outdoors and camping in Petersburg.

He is survived by his sister, Alice Kerns, of Morgantown; brother-in-law, Lee Ellis, of Poland, Ohio; and nephew, David Ellis and his wife Autumn, of Canton, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Ellis; brother, Rudy Kerns; and niece, Susan Ellis. The family would like to thank Dr. Qais and his staff at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center for helping him in his courageous battle against Colon Cancer. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, with Pastor Lawrence Rebelo officiating. Interment will follow at Halleck Cemetery.
