Kenneth Cox

Kenneth Richard Cox, 71, of Dilliner, Pa., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

He was born in Morgantown on Jan. 6, 1952, a son of the late Monzel R. Cox and the late Edna Pearl Calvert Cox.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Mae Howdershelt Cox; his daughter, Brenda Hughes and her husband Steve, of Morgantown; his granddaughter, Amanda Hughes; four great-grandchildren, Brooklin and Dylan Hughes and Arianna and Lillian Knapp; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Annie Cox, of Morgantown, Mary Sue Cox, of San Antonio, Robert Howdershelt and his wife Ruth Ann, of Bruceton Mills, Judy Phillips and her husband Neil, of Dilliner, Pa., Jean Groves and her husband Don, of Bruceton Mills, Darlene Bonievich, of Irwin, Pa., and Vicky Howdershelt, of Morgantown; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Eugene Cox, Robert Leroy Cox and his wife Rosa, and William Arthur Cox and his wife Artenchia Ann; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Sophia Howdershelt; two brothers-in-law, William Howdershelt and Thomas Howdershelt; and his nephew, Edward Eugene Cox II.

Kenny worked for more than 40 years for Laurita Mining/MEPCO Mining, retiring as a night watchman. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as working on crafts with his wife. He dearly loved his family and looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren.

Friends may join the family to honor Kenny’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Morgantown, from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14 and again from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15 officiating by Pastor Andrew Lawrence. Following the funeral service, Kenny will be laid to rest with his family at Bethel Cemetery.
