MORGANTOWN — Morgantown boys’ basketball coach Dave Tallman was named the 2021-22 coach of the year in West Virginia, the WVSSAC announced Wednesday morning.
Tallman coached the Mohigans to a Class AAAA state title last season with a 24-4 final record.
“I’m very appreciative for the award but honestly I only won this because I have the best assistant coaches in the state,” Tallman said. “Without them, our awesome young men and wonderful parents, things like this don’t happen. This is a total team effort.”
The award is given out by the National Federation of State High School Associations to 23 coaches across the country.
“Coach Tallman has demonstrated excellence and leadership in the coaching profession,” the WVSSAC said in a release.
Tallman will be presented with the award at this year’s boys’ state basketball tournament next month in Charleston.
This season, the Mohigans are 18-1 and the top-ranked team in the state. They will take on Dover (Oh.) on Saturday in the OVAC Class 5A championship before continuing their quest for a repeat state title.
