The West Virginia University women’s basketball team celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day Wednesday.
The team returned to Morgantown to square off against Texas for the first time this season.
During Wednesday’s game, the Mountaineers also celebrated the 50th anniversary of Title IX. Special T-shirts and water bottles were given away to the first 250 fans in attendance.
Around the country, National Girls and Women in Sports Day is recognized by schools, organizations and teams on the first Thursday in February.
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance.
The women Mountaineers next take on Oklahoma Saturday afternoon in Norman, Okla.
